Hornets’ appearance and size are 1/2 to 1-1/4 inches in length. They have black bodies with white markings on the head and abdomen. They feed on nectar, honeydew and other insects.
Hornets build large gray-colored paper nests in trees and shrubs. The nests are usually shaped like footballs or inverted teardrops. A bald faced hornet nest, may have anywhere from a 100, to as many as 700 (or more) workers, but only one queen!
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Bald Faced Hornets are extremely aggressive and will protect their home at all costs if they feel threatened. Unlike other stinging insects, hornets can sting you multiple times. Their stings can be very painful and should not be taken lightly.
