Yellow Jackets are about 1/2 inch in length and are members of the wasp family. They are black with yellow markings and prefer to eat on sugars, sweets, meats and occasionally other insects.
Nests are constructed of several layers of comb made of tiny bits of wood fiber chewed into paper-like pulp. Yellow Jacket nests are usually located in the ground, however we have found them inside walls in buildings, in attics, crawl spaces, and even on rare occasions, cracks in the foundation of homes.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
Yellow Jackets can also sting a number of times and will not hesitate if they feel that their nest is in any danger. They are one of the most aggressive of the stinging insects. A yellow jacket does not leave a stinger in its victim, that explains why they can sting multiple times.
